Frequently Asked Questions

Question

How do I know if I'm choosing a therapist that's right for me?

Answer

Therapists and approaches to therapy are certainly not "one size fits all." All are unique, it's important to find someone that you feel comfortable with. Remember, you're a consumer, it's okay to ask questions about the therapist's approach to therapy, education, and any other questions you have. There's just a certain "click" that you'll feel when it's a good match. Here's a wonderful article written by Tom Moon on finding the right therapist. Click here to read it.

Question

How long will therapy take?

Answer

Length of time in therapy is dependent on many factors. Some clients prefer a brief, solution-focused approach to therapy which may only take a few sessions. Some clients begin working on a brief issue, and as they progress through therapy discover deeper, aged issues which may take up to a year or possibly more to process. A popular way to view therapy is like exploring various cloves of garlic as we learn about various parts to yourself; this exploration moves at your pace.

Question

What if I feel stuck or like therapy isn’t helping?

Answer

If you feel stuck, unsure, or discouraged at any point, we approach that together with curiosity rather than judgment. Many clients I've worked with tell me that when they've had the courage to be honest about their experience is when the work deepens.

Question

Will therapy be just talking about my problems?

Answer

While talking is an important part of therapy, our work goes beyond conversation alone. We pay attention to your emotions, nervous system, and lived experience in the present moment, so change feels embodied and real, not just intellectual. Therapy is an active process focused on helping you feel more connected, grounded, and capable in your daily life. Getting used to pausing, slowing down and bringing lots of compassion to your experience brings a supported experience.

Question

What if I start to feel overwhelmed or emotional in sessions?

Answer

Strong emotions can arise in therapy, and you won’t be asked to push past what feels manageable. We move at a pace that respects your nervous system and sense of safety. If things begin to feel overwhelming, we slow down, ground, and adjust together. Your well-being always comes first.
