Hello! I'm Alexis Donato and I've been a licensed Marriage Family Therapist since 2007 and working in the field since 2001. I'm passionate about finding wellness and tapping into our innate healing and joy. I've had periods in my own life where I struggled and had some amazing guides in therapy walk with me in helping find my way. I was then inspired to walk along side those who may be suffering or struggling to reconnect with themselves in a way that is supportive and allowing.
Sometimes it's not easy to find that sweet spot between discomfort due to growth and staying comfortable in old patterns that may not be beneficial and even painful. I'm here to help you distinguish between the two that leads to transformation and new ways of being that lead you to your best self.
Our life experiences are so diverse, I tailor therapy specifically to you in a way that will address your needs from an eclectic, holistic standpoint versus a "one size fits all" approach.
In my own journey, what's helped me the most in my personal growth and healing is curiosity. The more I lean in to my experiences, get curious and take the time to see what's there, (the pleasant and not-so-pleasant too...) I notice things automatically start to shift. This is exactly what we can do together on your journey towards healing.
How I encourage change draws from several mindfulness based modalities such as Hakomi Mindful Somatic Psychology, self compassion, Internal Family Systems and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.)
Being mindful and taking time to slow down and observe what's present lowers the 'noise' of our busy minds. When you to tune into your body and your "inner landscape," it's a wealth of information. A clenched fist or a tight gut often informs us of underlying areas to explore. Mindfulness can give you the freedom in the present moment to bring acceptance to your story, heal wounds, and embody the courage to write a new narrative from this moment forward. It's also a wonderful tool to appreciate the parts of you that may have had to develop unhelpful patterns and beliefs for survival, then embracing the freedom to let them go.
Ultimately, I'm here to support you and your journey towards understanding in any way that feels nourishing and right for you. I provide a gentle and authentic partnership to help you reach your goals through an experiential, interactive dialogue.
My clients often tell me I'm warm, approachable and relatable making therapy an experience that is both supportive and safe to move through challenges. At the end of the day, I deeply honor my clients and their experiences--it is always touching for me to witness their inner wisdom emerge and innate ability to heal happen naturally.
In addition to my private practice, I'm also the current Department Chair at Foothill College Psychological Services and Personal Counseling where I see sudents for individual therapy and teach Stress, Wellness & Coping (CNSL 72).
